‘Intimate encounters: disability and sexuality’ is an international photographic exhibition that explores ways in which people with disabilities are sexual. The exhibition, organised by Tiaho Trust, opened in Whangārei in March 2008. Those attending the launch met two of the people who posed for Australian photographer Belinda Mason-Lovering. Denise Beckworth, one of the models, said that the exhibition ‘goes a long way to breaking down misconceptions about people with disabilities and their sexuality’. She anticipated that some would be challenged by the images, but hoped that they would help people to recognise that sexuality was a human right for everybody.
