In an April 1989 interview with Paul Holmes, Arthur Lydiard discusses the effects on runners of too much anaerobic training, and mentions the aerobic training of Kenyan runner Ibrahim Hussein, who had won the Boston marathon the previous year. Lydiard coached the New Zealand athletics team for the 1990 Commonwealth Games, which were held in Auckland.
