Pacific Islands Methodists

In 1995 the Reverend Tavake Tupou, of Tongan descent, was elected president of the Methodist Church in New Zealand. This television news report shows the lively multicultural ceremony to celebrate his election. Tupou was the first Methodist president of Pacific Islands descent. His position reflected the large proportion of people of Pacific Islands origin in the Methodist Church.
