Story: Unpaid domestic work

DIY advertisement

In this advertisement for hardware chain Mitre 10, the boy offering to help his mate with the retaining wall expresses the New Zealand ‘DIY’ (do-it-yourself) spirit. Traditionally, New Zealanders have done their own garden and household maintenance tasks, rather than spending money on tradesmen – which is why the advertisement maintains that ‘DIY’ is in our DNA.
