Story: Hotels and motels

The Hermitage, Mount Cook, 1963

Video file

The Hermitage at Mount Cook was one of the government-owned Tourist Hotel Corporation’s flagship hotels. This clip from a National Film Unit publicity film captures the glamour of the hotel and its spectacular setting. It was marketed to well-heeled international visitors rather than domestic tourists.
