In ‘wet’ areas of the country public drinking mainly took place in the bars of privately owned hotels like those shown in this 1965 documentary. The Licensing Control Commission, which was set up by the government in 1949, was responsible for issuing liquor licenses to these establishments and improving hospitality sector standards.
