Story: Farm families

Taranaki farming partnership

In 2008 Ben Rupapera was a sharemilker with his wife Lynne on a farm near Hāwera. Ben had worked in a freezing works for 25 years, but found that with Lynne also in a full-time job they only saw each other at night. So they sold their house and became sharemilkers, operating the business as a partnership. Lynne looks after the books, rears the calves, and is a part-time milker. The land is owned by Parininihi Ki Waitotara (PKW), a Māori land incorporation in Taranaki. Ben is a member of Ngāti Tu, while Lynne is Pākehā. Here they talk about their partnership.
