Story: Forestry research

‘The big mill’

The process of making pulp and paper at the Tasman Pulp and Paper Mill at Kawerau is shown in this film from 1957. Research on how to make pulp and paper from radiata pine began in the 1920s. The process was finally put into practice in the mid-1950s, when two major pulp and paper mills opened in the central North Island.
