Known as ‘Prof’ to his students, colleagues and to TV watchers, John Walker (1916–2010) was professor of soil science at Lincoln University from 1952 to 1979. Much of his research was concerned with correcting nutrient deficiencies, such as sulfur, phosphorus and molybdenum.
After his retirement, he became a strong public advocate for the wise and economical use of soils. In this video clip from Maggie’s garden show, he talks about the importance of good garden soils.
