Story: Bush trams and other log transport

Percy Burn viaduct

The Percy Burn viaduct was built in the early 1920s, allowing logs to be carried to Port Craig, Southland, from what is now the Waitutu State Forest. As explained in this clip, the viaduct was a magnificent feat of engineering. It is 125 metres long, and at 36 metres high is said to be the highest surviving wooden viaduct in the world.
