Story: Bush trams and other log transport

Wooden rails

Video file

Wooden rails were extensively used in the bush in the 19th century, but were replaced by iron rails in the 20th century. However, in 1982, as this clip shows, wooden rails were still being used to carry logs in the Saltwater State Forest, near Ōkārito on the West Coast.
