Jacqueline Sturm, interviewed by John Campbell in 2000, discusses her early short stories and how she stopped writing in 1968 to raise her granddaughter and return to work. She started writing new poems dedicated to individual family members in 1989, and this culminated in the book Dedications (1996). She reads the poem ‘New Year’s Eve 1998’, dedicated to the memory of James K. Baxter, from her second collection, Postscripts(2000).
In this 1997 photograph, Jacqueline is pictured with a drawing of Baxter looking over her shoulder. In her poem ‘Urgently’, she addressed him as ‘My dear one / And only dear / My moonrise / And early morning sun.’
