Housing warrant of fitness

The New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities at Otago University undertakes cross-disciplinary urban research, including on the link between low-quality rental housing and poor public health outcomes. The research led to a recommendation that New Zealand rental housing be issued with a 'warrant of fitness' to ensure dwellings met acceptable standards in design and amenities like heating. In this sound file from 2013 the director of the centre, Professor Philippa Howden-Chapman (pictured), discusses the proposed scheme with Radio New Zealand's Kathryn Ryan.
