Story: Blake, Peter James

Success with Steinlager 2

Peter Blake gives the thumbs-up after finally realising a dream by winning the Whitbread Round the World race on his fifth attempt in 1989–90, on the yacht Steinlager 2. As the yacht finished the race in England, thousands of people, including hundreds chanting ‘Kiwi, kiwi’ crowded the Southhampton waterfront.

Listen to Blake reflecting on the race.
