This view of the head of the trumpeter (Latris lineata) shows its distinct mouth, reminiscent of the puckered lips of a trumpet player. This fish was caught at Stewart Island, and the angler’s knife handle is visible. Using their small sharp teeth, trumpeters feed on crabs, shrimps, squid, octopus and small fish. Known to Māori as kohikohi, the species is also found in Australia.
