Story: Building stone

Schist wall (3rd of 3)

Schist wall

Flat slabs of schist are often used as an attractive facing stone. About 95% of schist is grey, but less common bands of pink, brown and green are used to give variety. This wall is in Greymouth, but the rock is probably from Otago.
