Miner’s shack, Denniston

This is a corrugated-iron dwelling at Coalbrookdale about 1917. Florence Donaldson holds a baby while her neighbour, Mrs Oldham, stands beside her. The housing in mining areas was often very poor; many miners hoped to soon move on, and mine owners were unwilling to invest in improvements.
