Ethiopian Abebe Ashete

In 2003 Abebe Ashete received an Auckland University of Technology community scholarship to study electrical engineering. Abebe, a producer and presenter of ‘Egnaw begnaw’ (an Amharic language programme) on Auckland’s Access Community Radio, was overjoyed. ‘Five years I’ve been here and I’ve had no chance. Now I expect a New Zealand career.’
