Ngāuruhoe erupting, 1928

Members of Sir James Gunson’s household at Mangatepopo valley watch Mt Ngāuruhoe erupting in 1928. Gunson, who was the mayor of Auckland at the time, was a strong advocate of opening up Tongariro National Park to people from the city.
