Story: Penguins

Penguin Slope, Snares Islands/Tini Heke

Penguin Slope, Snares Islands/Tini Heke

There are several penguin species that breed only in the New Zealand region. The only breeding site of the Snares crested penguin is the group of tiny islands and rocks it is named after, lying 100 kilometres south of Stewart Island/Rakiura and with a total area of around 400 hectares. These penguins are climbing Penguin Slope to their nests in the forest above.
