Story: Fishing industry

Poached rock lobsters

Image
Poached crayfish

These young rock lobsters were taken illegally by a diver in 1980, and are pictured on the hand of a fisheries officer. In his haul of 14 crays, 11 were undersize. Illegal fishing and the taking of undersized specimens is a problem for many coastal fish stocks. At some places along the coast all fishing of certain species has been banned to allow populations to recover.
