Large numbers of sea lions breed on a just a few prime sandy beaches. Here at Sandy Bay on Enderby Island, some females are suckling their pups. Other pups wait in a heap or ‘pod’ for their mothers to return from feeding at sea. At each site, a large bull attempts to dominate and mate with all the females there, fighting any other male foolish enough to show up.
