Mushroom farming

Bentonite clay can absorb a lot of moisture. This makes it useful for mushroom growers, who use it in a ‘casing medium’, which also includes peat and lime. The mixture covers the compost in which the mushrooms grow, trapping moisture and creating a damp, dense growing medium.
