Signing deed of settlement

At Pariroa , Pātea, in 2001 Ngāti Ruanui and the Crown signed a deed of settlement after the Waitangi Tribunal found that the Crown had breached the Treaty of Waitangi through killing and confiscation in Taranaki. A Crown apology was given in June 2003. Pictured are government minister Margaret Wilson (left) and members of the Ngāti Ruanui negotiating team.
