Deirdre and Ranginui Walker in later life. Deirdre was a no-nonsense person who softened her husband’s very disciplined and clinical view of the world. She proved a supportive partner and constant companion as Walker’s profile and activities grew. Politically, she was often the more radical of the two and would use formal functions to make her views known to political leaders and officials.
