Story: Sheppard, Fergus George Frederick

Parliamentary Precinct

Three men sit behind an architectural model of buildings in the New Zealand parliamentary precinct in central Wellington.

Fergus Sheppard (centre) shows Sir John Ilott (left), chair of the Trustees of the National Library of New Zealand, and Geoffrey Alley, the National Librarian (right), a model of a proposed National Library building, intended for a site in Hill Street, Wellington (never built) in the mid-1960s.
The model also shows the Beehive and Parliament House. Directly behind the Beehive is the low-lying Broadcasting House, the Bowen State Building and the Charles Fergusson Building, all government office buildings completed during Sheppard’s time as Government Architect.
