Waipū Art n Tartan Awards

Waipū Art n Tartan Awards

This photo is from the Waipū Museum Art n Tartan Wearable Art Awards in 2016. Waipū retains a strong connection with its early Scottish settlers and is known for its Tartan Week celebrations and the Waipū Highland Games. The Art n Tartan awards have been held annually since 2010, and they celebrate the 1782 repeal of the British Act of Proscription, which banned the wearing of 'Highland clothing' in Scotland.
