Helping the Korean community

Helping the Korean community

Yong Kim (left) is pictured with Jung-Mi Yu after both were honoured for services to the Korean community in 2012. Yong Kim received the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of her outstanding contribution in assisting Korean migrants to settle in New Zealand. She encouraged banks to set up Korean banking units to provide targeted services to migrants, and later established a financial consultancy to help New Zealand take advantage of Korean financial investment policies through increased trade. She also contributed to the government’s Migrant Women Entrepreneurship project and established an informal network of Korean businesswomen in Auckland.
