Working on the Christchurch rebuild

Working on the Christchurch rebuild

Arthur Adlaon, seen here at work at Christchurch Hospital in 2012, was one of a number of Filipino carpenters employed by Leighs Construction to assist with the rebuild of Christchurch after the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. Leighs tried to source suitably qualified tradespeople in New Zealand, but was unable to find them in sufficient numbers, so began a successful recruitment drive in the Philippines. The company aimed to assist its Filipino workers to integrate with the local community.
