Lorde with her Grammy awards, 2014

New Zealand singing sensation Lorde (Ella Yelich-O'Connor) was nominated for four Grammy awards in 2014 and won two: song of the year and best pop solo performance for 'Royals'. The song, which she co-wrote with Joel Little when she was 15, featured on her 2013 debut album Pure heroine. Written from the perspective of an outsider, it contrasts disdain for ostentation with a craving for stardom.
