Story: Domestic architecture

The Brake House, Auckland

The Brake House, Auckland

The Ron Sang-designed Brake House in Titirangi, Auckland, was built in 1977 and was a new take on modernism, with an Asian influence. It comprised a series of box-like forms which were elevated into the surrounding bush. Along with the use of cedar, this gave the dwelling an organic quality.
