War histories: 1946 conference

Historians, military personnel and Department of Internal Affairs officials gathered at a conference in July 1946 to plan the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force (2NZEF) official histories. Earlier that month, the War History Branch was established under the leadership of Major General Howard Kippenberger. In October the first staff began work, and the Branch remained in existence until it was renamed Historical Publications Branch in 1963.
