Kristina Ramstad with a little spotted kiwi

Biologist Kristina Ramstad is shown here with a little spotted kiwi. Based at Victoria University, Ramstad worked with a team using genomics (complete DNA sets) to study the levels of inbreeding in the rare rowi (Apteryx rowi) and the little spotted kiwi (Apteryx owenii). She also worked on a project looking at genetic diversity in populations of little spotted kiwi transferred to offshore islands. Both projects investigated the role of genetics in kiwi breeding success.
