Museum educators at Otago Settlers Museum (which changed its name to Toitū Otago Settlers Museum in 2012), Dunedin, give pupils from Blackmount School, Southland, a taste of the 19th-century school classroom. From the 1940s onwards New Zealand's museums began to focus much more on the nation's colonial history. The Otago Settlers Museum was well ahead of this trend, having focused on colonial history since the museum's founding in 1908.
