Gendered speech

Janet Holmes and other sociolinguists at Victoria University of Wellington have researched how the ethnicity and gender of New Zealanders are signalled in their speech. They have found that these factors are more important than social class in terms of differences between speakers. This collection of essays from 2010 underscores the gender focus of Holmes's research.
