University of Canterbury linguists Jen Hay, Margaret Maclagan and Elizabeth Gordon pose behind a product of their historical research into New Zealand English. Their work was helped by the discovery of 1940s oral recordings of New Zealanders who had lived in the colonial period, helping them to trace how spoken New Zealand English had changed over time and space (in terms of regional dialects).
