Story: Documentary film

Florian Habicht, 2004

Florian Habicht, 2004

Florian Habicht (centre) is seen with sound recordist Jeffrey Holdaway (lower left) and others during the shooting of his 2004 documentary Kaikohe demolition. This whimsical and warm-hearted film shows the passion for demolition derbies in the small, economically depressed Northland town of Kaikohe, near Habicht's own hometown. After races, the drivers unwind in their local thermal pools, and Habicht interviewed several of them in this unexpected setting.
