Third-year students of Victoria University's film studies degree can take a course in critical and practical aspects of documentary film-making. In 2013 Emma Bishop chose to make a 10-minute documentary about her local dairy. The Shalimar Mini Market, in Wellington's Aro Valley, has been owned and run by the Patel family for 35 years. The Patels give their regular customers advice on health and love affairs, and hold in-store karaoke nights. Bishop (centre) is seen with fellow students Vinny Ritossa (left) and Mark Berry. A challenge of the production, she said, was arriving early enough to film the dairy opening for business.
