As an inspector of schools, Henry Hill (seated, right) spent 37 years working to raise the standard of education in Hawke's Bay, supported by his wife Emily Hill. In addition to raising their own four daughters and three sons, they fostered Hamiora Hei, who later qualified as a lawyer.
