Glenn Colquhoun, a doctor by profession, emerged on the literary scene when his first book of poems, The art of walking upright, published in 1999, won the Best First Book award at the Montana Book Awards the next year. His next book, Playing god, won the 2003 poetry award. Both books sold in considerable numbers. Their success reflects both the accessibility of Colquhoun's poems and the humanity of his subject matter.
