Alan Musgrave, 2012

Englishman Alan Musgrave was head of the philosophy department at the University of Otago from 1970 to 2005, and continued to teach after his retirement from this position. Musgrave studied philosophy at the London School of Economics under Karl Popper, who had previously taught at the University of Canterbury. Popper recommended him for the position at Otago. Musgrave's main research interests were epistemology (theory of knowledge) and the philosophy of science.
