South African John Findlay was professor of philosophy at the University of Otago from 1932 to 1944. He was the first of the university's philosophers to gain international recognition for his research, which came about after his book Meinong's theory of objects was published in 1933. This photograph shows John Findlay at Boston University, where he was Borden Parker Brown Professor of Philosophy from 1972 until his death in 1987.
