Filming The lord of the rings

The casually dressed director Peter Jackson is seen at right with Ian McKellen and Christopher Lee, two of the stars of his multi-award-winning film The fellowship of the ring, the first part of The lord of the rings trilogy. McKellen later received an Academy Award nomination for his role as the wizard Gandalf the Grey. He reprised the role in Jackson's later trilogy, The hobbit.
