Story: Publishing

Hugh Price and Beverley Randell

Hugh Price and Beverley Randell

This photograph of Hugh Price and Beverley Randell was taken on their wedding anniversary in 1989. The two had been a fine partnership. Price had established Price Milburn Publishers in 1957 with his friend Jim Milburn. Although the firm published a range of non-fiction books, it really took off in the late 1960s when they began publishing beginners' reading books, many of them written by Randell. They won substantial export orders. Price was also instrumental in the creation of Victoria University Press, and from 1971 to 1979 a number of books were published under the joint imprint Price Milburn/Victoria University Press. Hugh Price died in December 2009.
