Eden Park lighting, 1999 (3rd of 4)

Eden Park lighting, 1999

The lights at Auckland's Eden Park are turned on for the first time for testing on 16 February 1999. There had been considerable development at the park since the early 1950s – there were new stands in 1956, 1959, 1964 and 1992, and corporate boxes were fixed to the roof of the South Stand in 1989. Then in 1999 the ASB Stand replaced the old, original North Stand, and the addition of lighting made possible night games of both cricket and rugby.
