1968 coxed four

1968 coxed four

The New Zealand coxed four show off their gold medals (and, in Simon Dickie's case, a sombrero) which they had won at the Mexico City Olympic Games in 1968. Dickie was the cox. Other members of the team are (top, from left) Warren Cole and Ross Collinge, and (bottom, from left) Dudley Storey and Dick Joyce. The team had not got into a boat as a crew until four months before the games, and they had never raced together before the Olympics. Yet, in the final they had the lead by the end of the first quarter and held on to win.
