John Walker is knighted, 2009

Governor-General Anand Satyanand invests John Walker as a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in August 2009 for his achievements as an athlete in the 1970s. Walker won the 1,500 metres gold medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics after breaking the world mile (1,600 metres) record in 1975.
