Mark Jackson of New Zealand takes the lead in a heat of the men's 1,000-metre speed-skating event during the 2002 Winter Olympics, held at Salt Lake City. New Zealand speed skaters have competed in short-track events at the 1992, 1994, 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympics, and in long-track events in 1998 and 2010.
