Playing with Meccano, 1986

Nicholas and Katherine Beauchamp pose here with a Meccano cargo ship, in Lower Hutt, in 1986. 13-year-old Nicholas spent 40 hours building the ship. Meccano consisted of metal pieces that were bolted together. By the 1980s Meccano was becoming a rarity, replaced by plastic building sets such as Lego.
