The Auckland-based Argent Court and its performance arm, the Argent Lords (who call themselves ‘a court of cavalier rogues’), epitomise the less serious side of military re-enactment. While they train twice weekly, only one session is martial – the other is concerned with combat for display purposes, dancing and other non-combat arts. They are shown here with mounted fighters from other groups after putting on a show for the public at the 2007 Taupō International Jousting Tournament. The Argent Lords are linked to live action role-playing, pacifist warfare groups and the Society for Creative Anachronism (an internationally active re-enactment group that was set up in 1966).
